member of the world’s largest four wheel drive and off road driving YouTube channel, Jock McDonald from 4WD 24/7, has embraced Kumho’s MT71 off road tyres and is now using and endorsing the specialist Mud Terrain tyres, as the go to rubber for off road adventures all over the country.
4WD 24/7 has more than 1.2 million followers on its specialist off road and 4WD YouTube channel having started the channel in 2019.
Jock and also Jesse from
4WD24/7 team, have recently returned from a ‘winter’ run to the tip of Cape York in ‘ordinary’ 4WDs equipped with the Kumho MT71 tyres.
McDonald and the 4WD 24/7 team aim to film their adventures to show everyday 4WD enthusiasts what can be achieved and where they can go in basic 4WD vehicles.
“We like to keep our videos relatable to everyone and show what is possible,” said Jock McDonald.
“The fact that Kumho creates such great off road tyres like the MT71s, which deliver the best performance on and off road, along with reliability and durability at a good price, fits perfectly with my ethos,” he said.
“The fact that the MT71s covered the entire trip to the top of the Cape in some very rugged conditions without a puncture and without any sidewall damage is testament to the engineering and design that goes into them,” he added.
“We need tyres that are totally reliable and durable for our journeys because we venture into some rugged territory and tackle some tough tracks, so we can’t afford to have our tyres let us down, and the Kumhos deliver just that,” McDonald said.
“The Kumho MT71s bag up nicely in slippery conditions and offer fantastic traction and grip in mud and slippery conditions or in the challenge of sandy territory,” said Jock.
“We proved that on our trip to the Cape and on all of the other trips I’ve done this year,” he said.
“The MT71s are also surprisingly good on the black top as well, and it is arguably the quietest mud terrain tyre on the market today, which is important when you have to cover thousands of kilometres on the tarmac to get to places like Cape York,” Jock added.
Jock started using
Kumho Tyres in 2023 and is now totally sold on the brand’s 4WD range and in particular the MT71s.
The 4WD 24/7 team do over 14 long distance trips a year all over Australia and also in recent times have taken their skill and expertise to the USA for some special episodes on the YouTube channel.
As well as the recent torturous trip to the Cape, the 4WD 24/7 team have so far this year have tackled 4WD adventures to the wild west coast of Tasmania, the Victorian high country, Outback NSW and the challenging mountain tracks of the Great Dividing Range on the NSW North Coast.
“I’m also trying out some MT51s and will be doing some videos around a trip with the focus on them later this year,” Jock said.
With a fleet of ‘ordinary’ 4WDs including some well prepared but equally well used Toyota Hiluxes and Land Cruisers, Nissan Patrols and Land Rovers the 4WD 24/7 crew clearly want to emphasise the ‘realness’ of their adventures.
The fleet for the recent trip to the Cape included the
4WD 24/7 crew’s special charity build 1988 Land Rover Perentie, that will be auctioned off in the next few months to benefit Young Veterans, aiding Australian military veterans who may be struggling to return to civilian life.
The special build Perentie is an ex Australian Army Land Rover which has received extra attention in the form of
Kumho Tyres, Tough Dog Suspension and a variety of mods and fabrication to better equip it for ultimate off road adventures.
